Vulnerable Sector Check

All volunteers are required to submit a Vulnerable Sector Check that was completed in the past six months. Anyone living inside Canada can apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check at their local police station or RCMP detachment. Two pieces of ID (one with a photo) and proof of residence, such as a lease, driver’s license, or bill are required when applying in person.

Bow Valley

If you are based in the Bow Valley, Vulnerable Sector Checks can be done either by visiting the RCMP detachments in either Banff or Canmore or by calling the phone number listed for the detachment on the following links for Canmore and Banff. In order to apply for a Sector Check, you will need proof of residence (e.g. bank statement or bill) and 2 pieces of ID (one must be photo ID).

Lake Louise

Residents of Lake Louise can proceed to the local RCMP  to process a Vulnerable Sector Check or by calling the phone number listed for the detachment. The applicant will need to show two pieces of valid personal identification of which one must include a photo, and proof of residence in Lake Louise. There is no fee for the Sector Check though Lake Louise RCMP accompanied with a letter.

Calgary Area

For those based in Calgary, CPS has an online system to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check by clicking here. RMA is a part of the VSPN Volunteer Network which provides a waived fee when they present our volunteerism letter. Please select volunteer and Rocky Mountain Adaptive during the application process. If you are having issues with the online website, they allow walk-in applicants at certain CPS locations found on their website.

Cochrane

Cochrane RCMP offers this service exclusively to residents within Cochrane. Volunteers from Cochrane can submit their information via the link by clicking here. For those who do not want to use the online portal other accommodations can be made through their website.

Further Afield

If you are applying from outside these areas, you may be able to use the same letter to apply for your Vulnerable Sector Check.  If you are an international volunteer, then you must provide a Background Check issued in the last 6 months to RMA. This can be scanned and emailed to us. 

Your Check must state clearly that there are no Criminal Records found or a Negative result. We are unable to accept Checks that state any Criminal Record. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this.

If you need to know when you submitted your last Vulnerable Sector Check, to RMA, please get in touch. This information will also be uploaded to your Profile Page within Better Impact.

Volunteer Confirmation

After signing up for a volunteer role, you will receive an automated confirmation. Close to your volunteer date, you will also receive a email from us confirming the Volunteer Plans. If you do not receive this email please get in touch.

Need to Cancel?

Should you need to cancel a volunteer role, please make sure to let us know at least 48 hours prior to your role. This will allow us time to let the adaptive guest know. You may cancel via Better Impact or by emailing us.
