Lost Guest
- Check designated meeting place first (you should always have a meeting place set up with your guest)
- As soon as you realize they are missing, contact your supervisor. They will let you know what to do next and may get in touch with the parents/caregivers.
- Continue looking in the area around your location where the guest was last seen.
- Complete an Incident Report Form
Injured Guest
- Do not leave an injured guest by themselves
- Do not touch the injured guest or administer First Aid even if you are certified (unless they are unconscious)
- Contact your supervisor immediately and explain the situation so they are aware of the injury
- Follow your supervisor’s advice on what to do next, depending on the situation.
- At the end of the lesson, fill out an Incident Report Form
Injured Leader/Staff/Volunteer
- If the injury causes the activity to stop, please call your supervisor to make them aware of the situation and to make alternate plans
- Make sure that your guest is taken care of
- If activity can be safely continued, please do so. If a make up activity has to be arranged, your supervisor will help coordinate this.
- If the task being performed at the time of injury was part of regular work duties (employed staff only) and for the purpose of the business, there is WCB paperwork that needs to be filled out with your supervisor ASAP, and modified work will be assigned
- If it is an off duty injury, your supervisor will want to know how you are, whether you need medical attention or support, and when you will be able to return to work
Parents/Guardian/Caregiver Do Not Pick Up Participant
- Some parents/caregivers have given participants permission to leave after the lesson (this information is available on the Employee Extranet > Guest Information). If this is not the case, call parent/caregivers numbers
- Wait 10 minutes and call again.
- If there is still no response, call your supervisor
- Supervisor may direct you to call Emergency Contacts
Broken Equipment
- In most circumstances, if equipment fails, the activity should not be continued, unless a replacement can be used
- Do not leave your guest in order to get help
- Call your supervisor to let them know of the breakage
Student Illness
- If the guest is ill, the lesson should not be continued.
- Call guests parents/caregivers. Let them know of the situation and arrange collection of the guest
- If caregivers do not answer, stay with the guest until parents/caregivers arrive
- If necessary, take the guest to a more comfortable location
Leader/Staff/Volunteer Illness or Injury
- If you staff or volunteer is too ill or injured, call your supervisor. Do not call the parents/caregivers
- The supervisor will make arrangements to end your lesson and make up the lost time
Code Yellow/Brown!
- Take guest to bathroom if needed. You should not provide any personal care
- If the situation is too uncomfortable for the student and/or no spare clothes are available, then stop the activity until the situation can be dealt with.
- Call your supervisor to make them aware of the situation
- Call parents/caregivers to make arrangement to collect guest.
Wildlife Encounters
- Avoid any wildlife encounters by being aware of your surroundings and any closures or warnings. This is each leaders responsibility.
- Obey all closures and warnings and stay on designated trails
- Reduce the chance of surprising wildlife by making lots of noise, watching for bear scat, clawed or rubbed trees, or trampled vegetation
- Keep alert, looking around you and in the distance
- If you see a bear or other wildlife, not to approach it. Make a wide detour or turn back and leave the area immediately.
- Do not make eye contact with a bear, talk softly and back away keeping it in view. Do nothing to threaten the bear
- Always carry bear spray and know how to use this if a bear seems like it will attack
- If an incident occurs, remain as calm as possible and contact your supervisor as soon as possible
- Contact Parks & Wildlife to let them know the wildlife location
